Best of the Blog:
The Sad, Sad Triumph of Means Over Ends

This month's Best of the Blog is "I Only Hurt You Because I Love You." It was chosen the "best" at the urging (ok, pleading and whining and "please please please!") of our staff, who have spent the past few weeks sending this post to everyone they know.

So what's the antidote? Here are 11 Ways to start focusing on the end results we want!

PRIZE Patrol:
Got a favorite post at Hildy's blog? Let us know which is your fave, and WHY. The best entry will win a signed copy of one of Hildy's books as a thank you!

Use It Today:

How can your board be MORE attentive to the organization's key indicators, in LESS time? How can even the least financially literate board member understand the financials? A dashboard can help get you with all this and more!

Community-Driven Brain Teaser:
Evaluating Your Executive Director's End Results

As you start aiming your work at creating the future of your community, new ways of seeing often catch you by surprise. So here is this month's Brain Teaser:

What do you want your Executive Director to accomplish this year?

Help Us
Join the Movement to Create Amazing Communities!

We can create amazing communities.

Don't believe it?

Consider this: We are creating the future, every day, with every action we take and every decision we make. From that, creating an amazing future for our communities is not just possible - it's our responsibility!

That's the movement we are about to kick off!

A movement to create visionary, comprehensive improvement in our communities.

A movement to aim our work at what is possible.

A movement to aim this sector at making our communities amazing places to live.

There is much to do! Will you join us?

Cool Distractions
Set Them Free!

Attention Book-a-holics! Stay away from this month's Cool Distraction! (Don't say we didn't warn you!)

If your love of books borders on the unnatural, then you will love

The premise is simple: Share the books you love with the world. Just take a favorite book, and put a note on the cover explaining, "I'm not lost - please read me!" Then leave that book in a public place, and let BookCrossing track the book's journey.

Leave an uplifting book in a hospital waiting room. Leave a funny book at a bar. Leave a book about meditation or journal-writing at an assisted living facility; a book about global warming at a plant nursery. Our minds are going wild with the possibilities!

PRIZE Patrol:
Come up with a great place to set free one of Hildy's books! The best idea will win a copy of that book for you, and a second copy to set free!

What They're Saying

Every month, hundreds of new subscribers sign up for our newsletter. Here's one of our favorite comments this month:

These are my first few minutes at your site, but an 'atta boy!' This is so to the heart of what we should be doing, making better communities. So glad to hear there are more of us who feel this way.

Tell Us What You Think!

As we continue to develop the Community-Driven Institute, helping you create the future of your community, we hope you will let us know what you think. What would be helpful to have on our website, or to include in our newsletter? How have you used the products and programs we already have in place, and how have they worked for you? We appreciate the feedback, because our goal is to help you change the world (or just your piece of it).

Thank you, as always, for the work you do to make your communities better places to live. We wish for you all the possibilities life holds.
